Color Palooza

An in progress collaborative project with my friend and fellow Recurse Center alum Iris.

We started pair programming together on Fridays and ended up deep in color theory, specifically exploring the relationship between how artists have historically understood color and how computers represent it mathematically.

So far we’ve built a 3D cube that plots Johannes Itten’s RYB color relationships inside an RGB cube. It’s been surprising to see where historically “true” colors actually land relative to RGB, and how much interpretation varies ~ especially the blues.

We’re building toward something that lets you create palettes and feel that gap for yourself.
